Tuesday, 2/25:
Today we read a timeline of Zora Neale Hurston's life, watched a short video about her, and then read and analyzed her nonfiction essay "How it Feels to Be Colored Me."
Thursday, 2/27:
We learned about regionalism, watched this video about Zora Neale Hurston, about Chubbtown (which is very much like the setting of the novel), and discussed the definition of dialect.

2/10/2020: Truth and Wheatley
Today we read our last two writers of this unit. On Wednesday, 2/12, we will have an in class summative assignment about all four writers (Douglass, King, Truth, and Wheatley). If you were absent today, make sure you are familiar with Truth and Wheatley so you can be successful on Wednesday!
Watch this video about Sojourner Truth.
Watch this video performance of Truth's Speech.
Read and annotate the text carefully. Make sure you understand the Biblical allusions and how Truth uses them in her speech (and how this is different than how Douglass and King use religion in their speeches and writing). Make sure you can articulate Truth's main idea.
Then watch these two videos about Phillis Wheatley.
Video 1
Video 2
Read and annotate the poem to demonstrate your understanding of how, exactly, it is "deeply ironic and deeply sarcastic."
